From film, social media, to pop culture, and the arts, it seems that tea parties are making a huge comeback. And it doesn’t have to be an expensive affair either. There’s more to tea parties than eating scones at the Palm Court. In fact, you can have one at the office or in your backyard.

Fancy throwing an afternoon fête with close friends? Here are good reasons why you should.

Why Tea Parties are Making a Comeback

Modern tea parties are flexible. You don’t have to plan for a classic British tradition a la Downtown Abbey. However, most of these events are normally held in the afternoon, at around 3-4PM. This is so there’s enough time to enjoy tea and sandwiches before eating dinner. But really, a tea party can be held at any time so long as your guests are willing to attend.

It’s a great excuse to catch up with friends. Nothing brings the gang back together faster than telling them you have hot scones available. Make sure to include everyone’s preferences so no one feels left out. Don’t forget the cream and sugar, too.

They’re not as stressful as dinner parties. No main meals to pre-cook or heat in the oven. Sandwiches can be served as is, with just the crusts cut off. Best part – no need to wait until midnight when people are too sleepy (or drunk!) to go home.

There are always lots of sweets! Who could say no to a blueberry scone or lemon tart? Feel free to go crazy with your favorite desserts. Oh, and don’t be afraid to try something new for the menu. Include fresh fruits, baked treats, or even store-bought. Not everything needs to be homemade.

Use your party to discover and enjoy different types of tea. There’s more to life than Earl Grey and Oolong, after all.

Why not invite your neighbour who grows his own herbs and ask him to bring some? Thyme, basil, rosemary, and dill can level-up plain tea. Dried fruits and flowers are also wonderful options. Have you tried organic rose with raspberry and Sencha?

You might be the talk of the town with the new delicious flavors you concoct!
